5 May, 2022. Perth, Australia. Gemstar announced today the appointment of Robbie Gaspar, former professional soccer player and Indonesia enthusiast to its Advisory Board headed by Founder and CEO, Gemma Manning. Robbie is currently the Director of Government, Corporate and Community Engagement at the Indonesia Institute and Business Development Manager for WA-based agtech company Global Iodine Solutions.

Gemstar has appointed Robbie as an Advisor for his extensive experience in building and fostering business ties between Indonesia and Australia, and for his deep understanding of Australia’s sporting industry. Robbie spent close to a decade playing professional soccer in Indonesia and has been both a player and player development manager for the code. In the past, he has been elected to and chaired the Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) committee and has played an active role in facilitating international relations through sport in Indonesia. Robbie is also involved in the WA start-up scene with WA-based agtech company Global Iodine Solutions, and has a solid understanding of business, sport and Indonesia.

Gemstar CEO Gemma Manning said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Robbie to our Advisory Board. His extensive experience and expertise in Indonesia, the sporting sector and start-up scene in WA is an excellent fit for Gemstar, with our commitment to helping Australian businesses access Asian markets, including Indonesia, and making our entrepreneurship education program YoungGems® accessible to all including Australian future, present and past professional athletes who we believe share similar traits to entrepreneurs.”

Robbie said about joining Gemstar’s Advisory Board, “I am excited to join Gemstar. I share the same passion as Gemstar on the business opportunities that Indonesia presents Australian companies and look forward to working with Gemma and the team to further educate and promote these opportunities. Businesses need to consider Asia in their growth plans and Indonesia should not be overlooked as part of this. I hope to help Gemstar make a difference in this area and see more WA-based companies take their first steps in their Asia engagement journey.”

This announcement comes at a time of growth and expansion for Gemstar. The company recently opened an Innovation Centre of Excellence in Batam, Indonesia, its third following Singapore and Perth. The company is now well equipped to assist companies navigate not only Singapore but Indonesia too and continues to grow its pre-accelerator program, YoungGems®.
